The often overlooked blog

It has been some time (months according to the computer) since the last blog post. I meant to stay on top of this thing but the months have really passed by quickly. I have my personal blog that I manage to keep up with, but even much of that is reposting videos that seem significant to me or relating exactly how exhausted I am from the various projects we have going on here at ANOMALY.

Now let's see if the last post was in March, and it is now towards the end of October... what has happened? Anne and I have been alternating shifts at the shop instead of overlapping our schedules. It's good because it allows each of us to focus on endeavors outside of the shop. She enjoys doing hair and make-up on location shoots, and I enjoy traveling to other piercing shops and filling in guest spots. So this way we each have more time to focus on those things. The bad part is that we currently have no other piercer, so while a walk-in hair client can often be done by any of the stylists here, a walk-in piercing usually has to be booked an appointment if they come in on a day I am not here. So for those of you out there interested in piercing, it's best to call ahead and try to make an appointment a couple days in advance just to be sure we can fit you in.

Here's some of the fun things I've been working on:
- Along with John Johnson of Outer Limits in Long Beach, CA I have started an internet radio show about body modifications. It can be heard at talkshoe.com/tc/25900 we air live every Tuesday night at 10 pm Pacific. Podcasts are available for download usually within a day after airing.
- I have some seminars coming up at the Second Annual Art For A Cure Tattoo Convention. ANOMALY will have a presence at the event taking place this April at the LA Convention Center. I will be teaching seminars on Natural Aftercare, Microdermal Surface Anchoring, and an Anthropological Look at Body Suspension and Ritual Modifications.
- The Suspension Performance Group (Ephemme Suspension Performance) had an awesome show at the anniversary of Cannibal Flower traveling art show this year in downtown Los Angeles. ESP also had a sucessful camping trip, while the trip has been an annual event for the past several years this was the first time we went to Catalina Island and it was lovely.
- I continue to guest at Outer Limits in Anaheim for any old clients in the Orange County area or any new ones interested in having me work on them.

Some of the fun things Anne has been doing (I'll probably forget the important ones, but off the top of my head):
- She did a fun little shoot with Ash Gupta and Jeff Linnet from studio838.com. Studio 838 is an amazing artistic group of photographers, models, and other artists. I highly recommend checking out their work if you ever need photographic assistance.
- Her hair and make-up work has been featured on the cover of a couple online publications as well as some international magazines.
- She did hair for the Anchor Blue fashion show that was part of KIIS-FM's Wango Tango festival this year.
- She continues to work with Joico (the manufacturer of the product our salon uses exclusively, also used by the American Idol stylists) as an adviser. She educates other salons about the products and their uses, as well as mentoring other stylists.
- She was featured on the Women's Entertainment Network show Secret Lives of Women. The episode was shot at our old location just a few doors down, and about eight months later we finally got to see it air post editing... not too shabby I must admit.
- She continues to be super mom to one of the best kids in the world, helping out behind the scenes of the drama productions and volunteering to run "spooky salons" at the annual school Halloween festival.

Anyway, we have a ton of new body jewelry that has come in and is slowly being catalogued and displayed for sale. Feel free to stop in and see the changes of our new location as we bring about the necessary remodels we haven't had time for lately. Our piercing room was recently completely remodeled and I must admit I actually enjoy being in there now (as opposed to my feeling about the room initially). Anomaly Moves Down The Block

Well we are still putting everything in its rightful place, but we have successfully moved a few doors down into a more intimate location. We now reside at 2145 West Sunset Boulevard in the beautiful city of Los Angeles (Echo Park neighborhood).

We have resumed all of the services previously offered including hair and makeup, professional body piercing, fine art exhibitions and independent designer clothing sales. Feel free to come in Tuesday through Saturday from 11 am to 8 pm or on Sunday and Monday by appointment.

We hope to start hosting community gathering nights at our little studio on Mondays. Movie nights, boardgames, live music, etc. It's all an attempt to give back to the community that has welcomed us, so during this time period (6 pm til 10 pm on Mondays) we will not be conducting business. You may come by for whatever gathering is happening, but no money will be exchanged and no business will be discussed. We thank you in advance for understanding that not everything in life should revolve around profit margins and the bottom line.

Another idea that will hopefully come to fruition soon is a video blog/online TV show. We are toying with the idea of filming and editing a weekly show to be broadcast on the internet and embedded into our blog (as much as we are NOT technologically advanced I'm sure there's a way to do this with YouTube right? Haha). The show will feature things like interviews with artists and musicians that we respect and appreciate, as well as focus on tips and hints for hair care and body piercing troubleshooting. Other topics and features will be added as we see fit or as you the audience request them.
